Singapore // Part 1

Hello Loves!  Hope you are all doing well and enjoying this warmer weather.  I still have so much to tell you and I don't want to forget a thing, so let's get started!

My first day in Singapore was a busy and exciting one.  We woke up early(ish) that morning and headed over to The Orange Thimble in nearby Tiong Bahru for some breakfast.  Kevin had told me about this little cafe (he'd been there a couple of times before) so I was excited to see and experience somewhere he liked to go and I had only imagined.

The cafe was cute, cozy and to my delight, air conditioned!  After gulping down an iced late and leisurely picking at some breakfast, (heat and humidity does something to my tummy to make me not so hungry) we strolled through the neighborhood and ended up at a nearby hawker centre.  Singapore is known for it's hawker centers filled with cheap & delicious local dishes.  Since we had just eaten we stopped for a fresh sugar cane juice and then made our way to the nearest subway station and headed to the Botanical Gardens.

The Botanical Gardens are definitely a must if you ever visit Singapore.  It's a lovely way to spend the day strolling the pathways and taking in all the beauty it has to offer.  It would also be a great place to stop for a pinic on the grass!

About halfway through the gardens the sky started to look ominous and soon after we heard the rumbles of thunder. Luckily we were near a little hut where you can stop to feed the fish and turtles.  We took shelter there and it was actually a nice break from the heat.

After a trying to make a break for it (and ending up soaking wet), we made our way home to rest and freshen up.

Later that evening we headed to Arab Street (known for it's fabric shops) and Haji Lane, the "hip" place to shop and home to boutiques such as Know it Nothing.  We worked up an appetite roaming and shopping and finished off the day with dinner in Little India.

Sandwashed Silk, my absolute fav!  (And so hard to find in Canada!)

On our way to fill our bellies we found ourselves in the middle of the Thieves Market, Singapore's largest and oldest flea mearket.  Locals come here to lay out and sell their wares, you can find anything from watches, to vhs tapes, to gadgets I didn't quite recognize. I had heard about the market on a travel show and it was definitely a fun coincidence to stumble upon it.

After a delicious meal of curry, pakora, naan, and a few other treats at Lagnaa, (where we dined barefoot and cross legged) we were pleasantly full and ready for bed.  Time to rest up for another big day ahead of us, after all the next day is when we headed to Bali!  You can read more about that here.
